Carolyn Treacy, a Dartmouth College undergraduate who will be working in the lab with Mike Zegans, M.D. this summer, was awarded a Dean of Faculty Research Award for her project "Inhibitors of Pilin Processing".

Daniel Kadouri, a post-doc in the lab, just returned from ASM where he presented some of his recent work on bacterial predators eating biofilms. His poster presentation generated a great deal of interest, including a News story in Nature and a posting at SciNews:

Greg Anderson, a post-doc in the lab, was recently awarded a post-doctoral fellowship
from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to support his studies of
biofilm antibiotic resistance in P. aeruginosa.

Jeff Wagner and Lisa Hammond, two senior undergraduates in the lab, just presented and defended their honors thesis. Jeff's work was on the sequencing and annotation of DMS3, a transducing phage of P. aeruginosa. Lisa mapped and characterized a number of mutants involved in biofilm-specific antibiotic resistance by P. aeruginosa.Both were recommended for high honors. Congratulations!

We just returned from our 5th Annual O'Toole Lab Retreat. This year the retreat was in E. Falmouth on Cape Cod. We had 10 people present their science, and Rob and Daniel, two senior post-docs in the lab talked about their experiences apply for and obtaining post-docs and academic research positions. It was a terrific retreat!
