My lab has had an ongoing collaboration with Mark Grinstaff's group at Boston University.  Mark is a chemist with broad interests related to microbial infections, and we have worked on projects related to novel anti-biofilm coatings, as well as systemic antimicrobials.  Our work has been funded by the NIH and Gates foundation.  Our most recent collaboration resulted in an article describing macromolecules called dendrimers as antimicrobials and anti-biofilm compounds.

I received some good news recently, as I was elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) along with four others at Dartmouth.  See the press release here.

We recently published a paper with Dr. Robert Ryan at the University College Cork.  Dr. Ryan and his collaborator (and former mentor) Dr. Max Dow have made important contributions to the understanding of bacterial signalling.  This recent collaborative work grew out a visit of Dr. Ryan to my laboratory where he learned about our model system for growing bacterial biofilms on airway cells.  Among other things, this study showed that bacterial cis-2-unsaturated fatty acids enhanced the resistance of biofilms grown on airway cells.
