Molly Grimes, a Dartmouth College undergraduate, recently joined the lab as a Presidential Scholar.  She'll be working with Dae-Gon Ha, a PhD student in the lab.

We have had several new people join the lab recently.  Charles Bay is a graduate of Dartmouth College and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Public Health Program here at the Geisel School of Medicine.  Charles worked full time in the lab this summer and continues his lab work while he pursues his Masters degree.



 Federico "Fede" Sisti is a visiting faculty from Argentina.
He is in the lab for a month or so from 
 to work on some cdiGMP-related projects.
 

Hadeel Kareem Musafer is a visiting PhD student from Iraq
who is spending several months in the lab studying
biofilm formation.

We've just published our most recent report of CRISPRs in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  In this report, headed up jointly by recently graduated Ph.D. student Kyle Cady from my lab (left) and Joe Bondy-Denomy from the Davideson lab at U. Toronto, we provide the first evidence for a functional CRISPR defense system in this microbe.  We also define some of the sequence determinants that dictate whether a phage is targeted by the system, and we developed assay conditions to insert new spacers into the CRISPR region.  Together with the strong body of literature in the field studying the biochemical basis of the Type-1F CRISPR found in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, our studies provide an excellent system for genetic analysis of this CRISPR.  Gary Heussler, another Ph.D. student in the lab (right) also contributed to this work. The work is slated for the cover figure when the paper journal is published, and will be highlighted in ASM's Microbe magazine.

We moved!  We are in a newly renovated lab, 3 floors down and 1 building over from our old space.  The main lab is in Remsen 202.  Check out the pictures below.  Come by for a visit!
