Laura Filkins, a PhD student in the lab, was awarded a travel grant by the ALTA California Eye Research Foundation to travel to Africa to test the hypothesis that microbial genomic DNA recovered from the ocular surface is a mixture of DNA from live and dead cells, and that these investigations can be conducted in association with field studies of trachoma.  Congratulations!
