A recent collaborative report with Steve Bernier, a former post-doc in the lab, and Mike Surette has examined an interesting interaction between Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Burholderia cenocepacia. The article, entitled "Cyanide Toxicity to Burkholderia cenocepacia Is Modulated by Polymicrobial Communities and Environmental Factors", was published in Frontiers in Microbiology.

We just returned from the 15th annual O'Toole lab retreat in York, Maine.
York is a small town on the ocean - in early June it is still pretty quiet.
During the 3 day retreat, 9 members of the lab presented their work
for ~2 hrs each. With the new students joining the group, a visiting
scientist, a recently graduated student and our lab tech, the head
count was 15 for most of the retreat.
The weather was great, so we held all the sessions on the back porch!
Kurt Dahlstrom kicked us off, followed by Jarrod Smith, two
members of team Pseudomonas fluorescens.
Giulia Orazi presented her work on polymicrobial
biofilms and antibiotic tolerance.

We alos had some time to hang out. On the first
night Giulia and her crew put together a great
pasta dinner.
Our tradition on the second night is to go out to a
lobster pound. Check out the pics below.
